Any decent pirate needs colors to hoist and I much prefer to tell the PCs later that the ship on the horizon bears the colors of a rotting whale corpse than saying 'you see the wormwood'. I did play out a few days of labor, the Gilman rogue got keelhauled for stealing (but she survived because she kept her waterbreathing heritage a secret), the bard got hotboxed twice, lots of lashes. I focused on RP with the 3 main ally NPCs (Rosie, Cog and Conchobar) and picked a few lackies of Scourge's to hate and then let everyone else fade into the background. I'm going to echo what many have already said, skip through as much of it as you can.
